The programme for this year’s Heart and Soul has been officially launched. We pray that it will help the Church celebrate and join together over the Pentecost weekend. The full programme is available through this link HEART & SOUL
A few highlights are:
On Saturday 19th May our Heart and Soul Youth gets underway in Princes Street Gardens at 6:30pm – a FREE evening of worship, music, and conversation led by our friends at Powerpoint Scotland and music will be provided by Christian EDM group, LZ7.
On Sunday 20th May, Heart and Soul opens at 12:30pm with our Family Picnic with for lots of fun, stories, games, music and laughter. Fischy Music will be joining the picnic and entertaining everyone with their songs and encouraging lots of participation from those gathered around the new ‘Family Stage’.
The programme in St. Cuthberts for the Sunday afternoon sees an exhibition marking the 50th Anniversary of Women’s Ministry within the Church of Scotland, the Heart and Soul Swing Band, the Hamilton Churches Resurrection Play, and a new piece of video artwork by internationally acclaimed artist Bill Viola entitled “3 Women”.
A new experience for visitors will be our “In Conversation” marquee hosting a number of guest speakers and presenters throughout the afternoon all held together by Church of Scotland Elder, BBC Journalist & Health Editor – Hugh Pym. The programme is:
1:10-1:45pm – Louise Macdonald OBE, CEO of Young Scot. Presented by the Very Rev Dr Lorna Hood OBE.
1:55-2:30pm – Anna Magnusson with Rev Dr Margaret Forrester discussing the 50 years since the ordination of women ministers.
2:40-3:25pm – Hugh Pym in conversation with Sally Magnusson on her books “Where Memories Go”, “The Sealwoman’s Gift” and the charity Playlist for Life.
3:35-4:10pm – Ross Greer MSP discussing young people and faith with retiring NYA Moderator Robin Downie and the Very Rev Dr Derek Browning.
4:20-4:45pm – Hugh Pym discussing this year’s end of WW1 Commemorations in London with the Scots in Great War London group, including Rev Angus MacLeod, Minister of St Columba’s Church, Pont Street.
There is the usual mix of music, drama, exhibitors, stories, conversations, and atmosphere … lots and lots of atmosphere. The event will conclude with what we pray will be a wonderfully uplifting time of worship in the Ross Bandstand at 5pm. We recommend getting there early to find a seat or a good viewing spot.

Finally, we invite you to pray for Heart and Soul. The event team will be in Princes Street Gardens building the event from Thursday 17th May. Please pray for strength for all involved, for those who give of their time, for those exhibiting and performing, for those travelling to the event, for the young people of our Church as they gather on Saturday, for the Good News of the Gospel to be spread by and through everyone who attends … and for sunshine, lots and lots of sunshine.
