Mike Weaver, our pastor

Mike Weaver

Church Pastor / Worship Team Co-ordinator

Mike was ordained and inducted as a  Minister of Word & Sacrament at GMC in October 2017, following 5 years of training for ministry including stints in Dunbar, North Berwick, Belhaven, Dalkeith, Edinburgh and Lincoln City, Oregon, USA.

My church background is ecumenical, being bought up in the Methodist Church in rural Shropshire and later going to the Church of England. My 20’s saw me with little time for church, instead concentrating on the world of work, sport, motorbikes and life in general. Following a motorcycle accident, marriage and my first child coming into the world – I returned to church, attended an Alpha course and found the power of Jesus in my life.

In the intervening 23years God has guided my family (Emma, Alex, Max and Abi) and I around the world as work (primarily 20 years in the restaurant, bar and nightclub industry) has moved us from St. Albans to the south of France, to Brisbane (Australia), back to France and then onto Dunbar, Scotland. In this time, He has also placed upon my heart a desire to serve Him and make him known – what a privilege! That call to serve Him has bought Emma and I to the heart of Dunfermline.

  • I love music of all types, my favourite band and artists being Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen and Jamie Cullum.

  • Luke 15:11-32, Parable of the Prodigal Son. God is a merciful God, full of grace and for that I am eternally grateful.

V.24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

  • I love to travel, see new places, try new foods and have been blessed to visit many countries including Mexico; Canada; Thailand; Germany; Spain; Norway; Denmark; Canary Islands; Italy; Holland; Belgium; Dubai; Israel., as well as live in some, including the USA; Australia and France

Lee Whitecross, our Youth Pastor

Lee Whitecross

Youth Pastor / Preacher

Lee joined Gillespie at the beginning of 2021 with almost ten years of voluntary youth work experience. He lives with his wife Ashley in Edinburgh.

His faith in Christ was born through God meeting him on the Youth Alpha course as a 16-year-old lad who was lost without direction, walking with no purpose and had many unanswered questions. Lee believes his life now has a new found purpose in Christ full of direction and answers. However, Lee is naturally curious and always has questions. Lee has had many unique opportunities to serve God and proclaim his faith over the years and looks forward to many more to come.

Lee is passionate about helping young people realise their full value and worth, empathising with the struggles young people face today and he believes all young people have great potential and talent that should be celebrated and encouraged.

Lee is certain there is no one who loves football more than he does and challenges anyone to beat him in game of football trivia. He is a passionate supporter of Hibernian Football Club and enjoys playing football as much as he possibly can.

Other than football, Lee loves driving and listening to his music – there is no genre of music Lee does not enjoy.

Pauline has worshipped at Gillespie all her life. She has 4 amazing grown up children and is Super Gran to her grandchildren. She can be seen about the church doing many different jobs which she loves. Her calling is for the vulnerable and disadvantaged. She was instrumental in setting up and running the Glen Mission (which has since been absorbed as part of the OpenHouse Cafe ministry) and has many testimonies of God’s work to share.
